Garden update! 05/02/2015

Holy cow it's been a while! I've been taking a lot of photos, but I kept neglecting to actually upload them. Finally, when my camera had reached capacity, I put my foot down and decided it was time to make another post.

A lot has been going on in the gardens. The squash and zucchini plants are giving us so much fruit that I take a bag to work almost every week to share with friends. Although, this season a new pest has moved in. It looks like the aphids are gone, but cucumber beetles have moved in. They don't seem to be causing too much damage, so I'll let them run their course for now. These plants will be removed in a month or two anyway, since the heat really does them in.

The pomegranate sapling we put in last year is on its way to becoming a full on tree. It's even putting on fruit! We are very pleased at the sight of this, because we weren't expecting anything for at least another year.

The bed with my basil is looking absolutely awesome with the combination of red velvet, licorice, lime, and Genovese basil all growing wildly. They're starting to flower now, and the area is filled with the sound of bees busily working to collect the pollen. With some garlic, potato, and tulip plants thrown in for good measure, the bed is bursting with life. Love it!

Indoors, my pablano peppers and purple bell peppers are doing fantastic! I've upgraded them from the 3 gallon storage containers they were in, to 5 gallon food grade buckets. They've really taken off since being moved. I've also removed the closet shelf and repainted the entire closet in a flat white paint to help bounce around some light. I ended up removing the basil and leafy green bins, since they weren't looking too hot. But I'm excited though, because they've been replaced by two beefsteak tomato plants. Can't wait for these babies to grow up!

I *think* this is a lily (someone correct me in the comments if I'm wrong!)
Red velvet basil flowers
